UNOFFICIAL meeting minutes--April 13, 2010

The following are the UNOFFICIAL meeting minutes from our April meeting. They have not been officially approved by the Youth Association yet, but we wanted you all to know what's going on:


Meeting Minutes

April 13, 2010


Attendance: Kim Gariepy, Tammy Linendoll, Gracie Lynn Bessie, Willie Linendoll, Brooke Linendoll, Acadia LeBlanc, Remi LeBlanc, Emilee Thibeau, Brianna Thibeau, Savanna Cary, Debbie Earthrowl, Krista Sullivan, Herb Perkins, Susan Getty, Taylor Patrick.

Minutes: Motion to accept March 9 minutes was made by Tammy Linendoll, seconded by Brooke Linendoll, approved by all.

New Members: Replacement members are needed--a motion was made to develop a nominating committee by Kim Gariepy, seconded by Susan Getty, approved by all. The committee was formed consisting of the following members – Debbie Earthrowl, Bri Thibeau, Taylor Patrick, and Kim Gariepy

Treasurer: $ 98.00 was given to the Courthouse Community Center to purchase an ink cartridge to replace the ink used to make copies for us.

501(C)(3): This is close to being completed.

Town-wide cleanup: Willie Linendoll put together an Earth Day Showcase at school. Town-wide cleanup will be on Sat. April 24th. Cleanup at the Georgi will be on May 1st from 9am to 1pm; Lake Lauderdale cleanup is also on May 1st from 9am -3pm.

Summer Swim Program: Swimming lessons this year will be at Lake Lauderdale. Children will be bussed from the school to Lake Lauderdale and returned to Salem at 11:00. Lunch, Learn, & Play will be in the afternoon and run from July 5 to August 15.

Nature Activities for families: this is in the planning stages right now. These activities will possibly take place after Lunch, Learn, & Play ends.

Town-Wide Garage Sale: Discussed tables, space, and articles for the newspapers.

Community Garden: in need of a “garden manager”, possibly a college student.

Helping Animals: Jessica Barrett came to the meeting, she shared her needs – changing litter boxes, and walking dogs, etc. She will let us know when she needs help with specific events. She can use volunteers anytime; call her at 854-9518.

Salem Art Works Outdoor Film Program: Andrew Cafritz offered the use of a projector and space at SAW for movies. He also offered the same to the PTA.

Other Youth Commissions: Keith Kelley shared Hoosick Falls Mentoring Works Pamphlet with us and suggested that we consider attending meetings of other youth commissions to get ideas.

Logo: no new ideas

Website, BlogSpot, Facebook: Facebook has over 100 fans.

New Business: Thank yous have been sent for skiing; Roland LeBlanc has offered to teach tennis free to members of the community; Bri Thibeau is planning on having her soccer camp the week of July 19th , if the weather is bad the following week will be used – K- 12 camp; Susan Getty is looking for ideas for the summer program at the library – contact her if you have any ideas (library #854-7463, email sgetty@sals.edu)

Other: The SAVE van has been registered – they will begin using it for regular trips to the grocery store
