Update on the Bedlam Corners Store--courtesy of Debbie Earthrowl

Hello everyone!
Lots has been happening! I have a reminder, an update, and a request for you and anyone you would like to forward this to or ask.
REMINDER:
The Benefit Ham Dinner will be this Friday, December 31, 5:00 PM, at the West Hebron Presbyterian Church.
You may donate whatever you wish for the dinner. Take outs are available.
UPDATE:
Activities this week include:
Monday -- 9AM - Noon (and maybe later) -- We are taking care of things that need to be moved before more construction takes place.
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday -- beginning at 9AM each day, construction will be taking place. If you would like to offer to help on those days, please call me (Debbie at 854-3203 or 391-3215) so that you can be put in touch with the appropriate person.
We are beginning to gather building materials. Some of you have mentioned that you have some materials left from your own building projects. If you have something you think might be helpful, please call 854-3203 or 391-3215.
REQUEST:
Over the past two weeks many of you have been sharing stories concerning memories of happenings at the store. We are going to begin gathering those stories to put together a book to be sold to benefit the rebuilding. Shelley Dean has graciously offered to compile the stories for us. We ask that you either write down your story, record it so that it can be transcribed, e-mail it (sdean3@nycap.rr.com), or call Shelley (854-9715). What a treasure this will be for many! Thank you so much!
I pray that you will know special blessing in your own life in this new year, as we work together to help Marie, Zack, and the Bedlam Corners Store to have a new start!!!!
Debbie

Update on the Bake Sale & Silent Auction

**Update courtesy of Debbie Earthrowl

Just a quick update on the Bake Sale & Silent Auction to let you know that it has been extended....
NEW EXPANDED HOURS ---
Friday, December 17, 8 AM - 6 PM & NOW, Saturday, December 18, 10 AM - 2 PM
The Silent Auction will now end on Saturday at 2:00 PM.
Donations are AMAZING!!! We know that we have some awesome bakers, and they came through once again, but what is truly amazing are the silent auction items. They are original, and absolutely wonderful. Many are handmade -- wood, glass, knitting -- all are creative. Each would make a wonderful gift.

Notes from Dec.14th, 2010 meeting

Our meeting was held on Dec. 14th, 2010 at 6 PM at the Courthouse Community Center. A small, but lively group was in attendance. The following is the agenda we worked with, plus pertinent notes from the discussion.

Welcome and introductions-comments from student members and guests.

1. Secretary's report (our secretary, Kim Gariepy, was not in attendance)

2. Treasurer's report (our treasurer, Tammy Linendoll, was not in attendance)

3. Skiing and bowling clubs:
Skiing/snowboarding at Willard will begin on January 7, 2011. Bev Kratzert has been instrumental in making this program happen this year. More details will be posted here as soon as possible, but Bev has sent information home with the children at school.
Bowling club is a program in the works, at this point.

4. Snowshoeing--Keith Kelley:
Keith spoke to us about a program happening at Merck Forest on New Year's Eve. There will be a family snowshoeing event beginning at 7 PM and lasting until about 8 or 8:30 PM. The paths will be lit by ice candles...sounds like lots of outdoor family fun for this special night! As we have more details, we will post them.

5. Winter Festival at ice skating pond at S.A.W.--Anthony Cafritz:
Anthony spoke to us about his plans for a day-long Winter Festival to kick off the opening of the ice skating pond at S.A.W. This will be happening in January at a date to be announced in the near future. As we have more details, we will post them.

6. Mentoring program at the school:
Beverly Kratzert reported that Mary Kilpatrick and Suzanne Dollard are working on this project. They are beginning with matches between adults in the community and high school students.

7. S.A.Y.A. meetings at the school:
At our last meeting it was proposed that adult Y.A. members should go into the school and informally meet with as many students as possible to gain an understanding of issues in which the students are interested, and ideas the students might have with which our group can help. We discussed this further, and we discussed some recent meetings of the Natural Helpers group within the school from which some great ideas are beginning to be generated. Our group decided to give the Natural Helpers team some time to process what they've accomplished so far, then to plan to go into the school to talk with more students.

8. New student members--involving all constituencies at school:
Brief discussion here. Again discussed the idea of asking bus drivers to help disseminate information to students, to hopefully reach more kids plus this adds another point of contact.

9. New members:
We voted in Liz Donaldson, Jason Fry, Karen Hickland, and Kyle Hunter as new adult S.A.Y.A. members!

10. Dan Clary--new ideas involving bicycles:
Dan spoke to us about three ideas he has for involving young people in the community in positive activities involving bicycles. He proposed a bike safety/bike repair program for kids in school, a bike race for kids (possibly setting up an off-road course), and a bike rental program for the kids in town. We discussed ideas with Dan, including having Dan do a workshop at the Courthouse over April break, and his offering a program at Lunch, Learn, & Play this summer. More information will follow as it is available.

11. Video game/board game night at the Bancroft Library--any interest?:
Discussed briefly. We need some young people to step forward to help plan this event.

12. Fitness Connection:
Going out of business. Discussed the fact that the building would be a good spot for a youth center, but would need to be purchased or rented.

13. Youth Barn Planning Committee meeting 12/15 at 7 PM at the Courthouse--all are welcome!

14. Old business

15. New business:
We discussed S.A.Y.A. organizing a fundraiser to benefit the Salem/Shushan Fuel Fund. We are planning, at this point, to coordinate a benefit breakfast to be held the same morning as the Winter Festival at S.A.W. We will be having a planning meeting for this event on Monday, Jan. 3rd at 6 PM.

16. Comments from guests

17. Other

18. Next regular meeting: Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at 7 PM at the Courthouse

19. Adjournment

Other points of interest:
We spent time discussing the Bedlam Corners Store fire and all that is being done to benefit Marie Mulligan and her son, Zach Graham. As has already been posted here, there are two events coming soon.
Friday, December 17th, from 9 AM until 6 PM there will be a benefit Bake Sale and Silent Auction at Fred & Norene's Sub Shop. Donations for the sale/silent auction are needed, and lots of people are needed to show up to buy and bid!
Wednesday, December 22nd and Thursday, December 23rd the proceeds from the bag sale at the Shoppe Off Broadway will go to Marie Mulligan and Zach Graham. Stop in to "shop the Shoppe"!

On New Year's Eve, December 31st at 5 PM there will be a benefit ham dinner at the West Hebron United Presbyterian Church. "Give Marie and the Store a new start on New Year's Eve!"

Additionally, the Hebron Volunteer Fire Company is planning a benefit dinner for the near future. Stay tuned for more details!

As we have more information about ways to help the folks of Bedlam Corners Store, we will be posting it. Thanks!!

Help for a family in need

We're helping to spread the word: Norene Russo is planning a huge Bake Sale/Silent Auction at Fred's Sub Shop on Friday, Dec 17th, for Zach Graham and his mom who lost their home to a fire last Friday. The sale starts at 9 AM on Friday and will last until all is gone, or until 6 PM. If anything remains, the sale will continue on Saturday. Norene is in need of silent auction items and lots of goodies to sell. Please, bake and donate silent auction items, if you can. Examples of silent auction items are gift baskets, individual items, handmade items, or a gift certificate for a service you could provide. Norene will be in the shop until 7 PM on Thursday, and back again at 8:15 AM on Friday to accept donations. Then, make sure to stop in on Friday to buy goodies, bid on silent auction items, or simply donate! Thanks for all you can do.
Additionally, The Shoppe Off Broadway is planning to donate all of the proceeds from their bag sale on December 22nd and December 23rd to Marie Mulligan and Zach Graham. Be sure to stop in and shop the Shoppe on Dec. 22nd and 23rd. It's wonderful to experience the community pulling together to help our neighbors in need!
